Mitchell’s Run Thru Rockford Training Tips



MVP Athletic Club Trainer Ben Furey and Lauren King of Mitchell’s Run Thru Rockford talk training tips for the race, which is Aug. 17, 2019 in downtown Rockford, Michigan. On that day hundreds of volunteers and as many as 1,500 runners will all come together for such a worthy cause. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to raise funds and awareness of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a fatal genetic disorder that slowly robs people of their muscle strength. everyone join Gonzalez I am at MVP athletic club in Rockford Michigan today we're gonna talk about how to get into Michigan's best shape okay well maybe maybe not that but we will talk about how to help out a great charity hey gonzo and everyone listening thanks for coming out and joining us today we're out at MVP and Rockford I'm here to talk about a great event coming up in downtown Rockford on Saturday August 17th the event we're talking about today is Mitchell's run through Rockford it's the 21st event this year we're super excited it's a 5k that goes right through downtown Rockford starts at 8:30 on Saturday August 17 and additionally there is a kids for kids run that takes place at 9:30 so bring out the whole family and enjoy the day and will actually have superheroes and princesses that'll be running with the kids this year's we're really excited about the event it's for a great cause 100% of the proceeds are donated to parent project muscular dystrophy and they raise money to n – n muscular dystrophy so we're really excited to be here we're actually I'm here with Ben one of the trainers here at MVP and your boom yeah and Ben's gonna talk to us today about training for a 5k especially if you've never done one before yeah so a big thing when you're training for a 5k start where you're at so if you haven't ran before start walking and slowly increase your running another thing is that a lot of people miss a lot of runners they forget the strength part of it so making sure your joints and your muscles are strong enough to handle the impact of running so a couple of things I like to tell people make sure your strengthen your legs your core and your back so a lot of things that I like to do with people whether it's stepping up on a box doing lunges things for your lower body upper body wise anything where you're pulling something towards you is really good to help develop your posture and keep you upright so it takes some of that impact off your lower body yeah that sounds like fun so where can we sign up for the race yeah so if you guys are since you go to Mitchell's run org registration for the 5k is $30 right now and with that you get a t-shirt a medal you can upgrade to a tech T that I have on here as well if you're interested in that and additionally this year one of our great sponsors Rockford Brewing Company is offering all participants over the age of 21 a coupon for a 21 cent beer I like that and how can I come out here and train with Ben yes if you want to come you can look up us on the Internet MVP sports clubs comm or you can just stop by one of our locations and just walk in and just experience it it'll be a great opportunity just to get in and get to know people and just to start your journey all right how do you do yellow her in the morning when she's training with you 5:00 a.m. every Tuesday or Monday Thursday we get a yelling yeah I know your training routine so come join us
